Case Study: Christian Aid’s, Buy a net text appeal

Problem:
Malaria kills a child every 45 seconds. There are volunteers across Africa who are working to protect their communities from malaria, but 150 million people across Africa still don’t have access to a net.

Campaign:
For a £1 text donation you can buy a net and save a child’s life. The nets are used as protection from mosquitos which are one of the biggest causes of death in the developing world.

Outcome:
As a result Christian Aid gained thousands of supporters and raised a substantial amount of money to buy nets for children in Africa and developing countries.

Conclusion:
It’s such a simple idea that gives people the chance to donate quickly and easily from their mobile phone. This means that if you saw the ad on TV or saw it on a bus you could just get out your phone, send a text and for £1 you have saved a child from the dangers of Malaria. Traid could use a campaign like this to help encourage people to not only donate clothes to them and shop in their charity shops but also to donate money at the press of a button. Could we think of something that a £1 donation would have an impact on in their charity work?
